My next big change - starting a tech company with friends

After deciding to stop making path-traced art I was feeling a little lost as to where I should focus my energy. By some twist of fate an amazing opportunity fell in my lap - to be part of the founding of a new startup.

After deciding to stop making path-traced art I was feeling a little lost as to where I should focus my energy. After trying and failing to adopt a few mediums I found myself falling back into my old hobby (and job) of web development. I was finding a lot of joy in the craftsmanship involved in complex websites and the advances in UX and SPA’s actually made me feel like I was working on some personal bespoke artisanal experience.

By some twist of fate an amazing opportunity fell in my lap - to be part of the founding of a new startup. An old colleague and friend was looking for someone to tackle the front end of a new web app that was being made to fill a market gap. The product isn’t glamorous (sadly I can’t talk about it) but the end product is high impact and doing a good job would improve the world. In terms of an opportunity it ticked all of my hypothetical boxes:

  • Fully WFH ( I love my office )
  • Full autonomy and ownership of the front end stack
  • Stake in the success of the product
  • Crafting something that will bring value to the world
  • Investor paying for the initial production
  • Preorders (!).
  • The other 2 team members are friends I trust, respect and have worked with well previously

It ticks all the boxes for me and I’m looking forward to committing a chunk of my life to doing a great job.

Sadly this means if you follow me for art I don’t think any will be coming for a while, I’m really excited and want to talk about this as we grow from nothing to launching our first product within the sector.
